Stop motion videos

Hi guys, today we had to make a blog post about the options we chose for the Arts kete.

There was a lot of options like…

  •   Comic Strip and Cartoon.
  • Junk Art.
  • Making Kites.
  • Mask Making.
  • Mosaics.
  • Multimedia Design.
  • Origami.
  • Paint Works.
  • Performing Arts.
  • Stop motion Videos.
  • Perspective Drawing.
  • Predator Art.
  • Wearable Art.

But I chose Stop motion videos.

Here are a few examples:

Lego stop motion.

Spider man stop motion.

What is stop motion?:

Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back. (This is from Wikipedia.)

When was stop motion Invented?:

1898, in a movie called The Humpty Dumpty Circus, which has been lost to the world. The first example we can see is from 1902, called Fun in a Bakery Shop – a movie made by Edwin S. Porter and produced by the one and only Thomas A. Edison.

Paper bridges

Aim: I want to find out how to make a paper bridge that support the most weight across a 20cm gap.

Research:

A paper bridge fail video.

How to make a paper bridge.

Method:

Equipment:

  •  A4 Paper
  • Sellotape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Instructions:

1. Grab your A4 paper.

2. Roll your A4 paper.

3. Glue on the end of the roll of the paper using glue paper.

4. Repeat step 2 and step 3 for other papers.

5. Measure the rolled paper to get the dimension using a ruler.

6. Cut the roll paper after measure the dimension.

7. Connect the entire trusses member and glue it to make the triangle truss bridge.

8. Connect the bottom chord and top chord with the trusses member and glue it.

9. Repeat the steps above to construct the other side of the bridge once the first side is completed.

10. Connect the other roll at the bottom as floor beam of bridge and glue it.

11. Place the bridge under the fan to ensure the glue is fully dry.

Discussion:

How does a paper bridge work?:

A paper bridge balances itself and maintains its upright posture via compression and tension. The combination of these two opposing pressures causes the building of a bridge to reach equilibrium. The bridge will fall when compression, the force pushing down on it, is greater than tension, the force pulling on it.

Float Your Boats

Aim:

I want to find out how to make a boat float.

Research:

Site

Method:

Equipment:

  • 30cm square tin foil
  • Tray of water
  • Corks for weight

Instructions:

  1. Get your equipment ready.
  2. Fold your tin foil into a boat using the instructions from the video
  3. Float the boat in the water.
  4. Add corks onto boat until it sinks.

Results:

Danny (the boat, not a person) was able to hold 40 corks before he sunk.

Discussion:

How/why do boats float?:

The weight of the water that the object is displaces determines the nett upward force acting on the object.

What is density?:

The degree of compactness of a substance.

Archimedes Principal:

The Greek mathematician and inventor Archimedes discovered the physical law of buoyancy, which states that any body completely or partially submerged in a fluid (gas or liquid) at rest is subject to an upward, or buoyant, force whose magnitude is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the body. The volume of fluid that has been displaced is equal to the volume of an object that is completely submerged in the liquid or to the portion of the volume below the surface for an object that is only partially submerged. The buoyant force’s strength is equal to the weight of the fluid that has been dispersed.

I hope you enjoyed this experiment, bye!

Water bottle rockets

Aim: I want to find out how to make and launch a water bottle rocket.

Research:

Water bottle rocket fail.

someone launching a water bottle rocket.

How to make a water bottle rocket.

Method:

Equipment:

  1. plastic tape
  2. scissors
  3. foam core board
  4. 2l soda bottle

Instructions:

  1. Using scissors cut foam core board into three fins.
  2. Use the packing tape to stick the three fins to soda bottle, not all together.
  3. Use the plastic tape to decorate the fins if you want.
  4. Cut the trash bag so that it is 2 FT by 2FT in the shape of a square.
  5. Fold and cut like this:

6. Put tape on all of the octagon’s pointed edges as follows.

7. Poke a hole through the tape in the centre using the skewer.

8. 8 4m sections of fishing line should be cut off.

9. One of the eight 4m sections of fishing line should be slid through the opening and knotted twice.

10. Take the strings that aren’t attached to the parachute once all the strings have been joined. Attach them with tape!

More about water bottle rockets:

How does a water bottle rocket work?:

A plastic pop bottle rocket is filled with compressed air using a launcher that is powered by a hand bicycle pump or tiny compressor. Air leaves the bottle when it is removed from the launcher. According to Newton’s Third Law of Motion, as the bottle expels air, the air pulls the bottle upward.

The acceleration rises as the thrust rises (the pressure on the bottle). This serves as an example of Newton’s Second Law (a bigger force causes a bigger acceleration). The greater acceleration is perceived as a higher flight.

Colour theory

Kia Ora Guys, for the past week my class has been learning about colour theories and figuring out what monochromatic and analogous means.

This is a colour theory wheel:

This wheel has both analogous and monochromatic colors here is why:

Monochromatic colors are derived from a single base color and extended using its shades, tones and tints. Tints are achieved by adding white and shades and tones are achieved by adding a darker color, grey or black.

Here is a monochromatic painting:

Analogous colors are groups of three colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, and a tertiary. Red, orange, and red-orange are all examples.

Here:

And now here are some of my examples:

now here is my basic color wheel:

This color wheel consists of red, blue, yellow, green, purple and orange.

Red,blue,yellow are primary colors.

and orange green and purple are secondary colors.

These were some of the questions my teacher wanted me to answer:

here were my answers:

What are the three primary colors: Red,Blue,Yellow

What are secondary colors: Green,Orange,Purple,Brown

Why are they called secondary colors: A secondary color is a color resulting from mixing two primary colors.

Why do you think the three arrows next to analogous colours point to that range of colours? (I was a bit confused about this one)

Does it give you a clue about what the term might mean? Take a guess and write it down.(and on this one)

analogous colours are groups of three colors next to each other in the color wheel for example Red,orange and yellow.

what I found exciting was making the color wheel.

What I found quite hard was adding all the information in a blog post It takes a very long time.

but overall it was a nice challenge.

Bye guys:-)

I also liked drama This week we played Vampire, in the first round I got out like first… but anyways in the second round I was the Vampire.

How to play Vampire:

basically there’s one killer and that killer goes around in the dark while everyone has their eyes closed, and the vampire goes around squeezing people’s shoulders when you get squeezed in their shoulder you need to die dramatically so screaming etc. Then walk to the side of the room and the people at the side of the room slowly close in the group of people including the vampire and the last person standing wins.

So overall it was a pretty cool week.

bye guys!!!
